Museum Next Interview

I sat down with Tim Deakin from Museum Next. It was great to connect with him, where we discussed Social Media and Digital Marketing within the arts and culture sector. We discussed the significance of utilising storytelling and cultural institutions, not neglecting commercial objectives.

What we covered

How digital platforms will remain crucial in the arts and culture industry, and how organisations must adapt to new digital tactics to connect with their audiences. In my opinion, the sector’s future growth hinges on its ability to use digital platforms effectively and engage with audiences.

We looked at how maintaining audience numbers post-pandemic has been difficult and why, getting a firm grasp on their data and measuring their success by establishing benchmarks and what metrics to track is important. Having a digital-first mindset will help with understanding and defining success.

Leadership

To achieve this, senior leadership and relevant stakeholders must enhance their digital skills and have a greater understanding of the value of digital platforms.  I know cultural institutions often operate with limited resources. That’s why it’s important to remember what careful planning and a basic strategy can accomplish for an organisation’s audience growth.

Brilliance of the sector

We discuss the success of organisations, like the Museum of English Rural Life. As well as the impact that the Metaverse and platforms like Roblox are having on Gen Z and Alpha.

The next generation will expect an experience that extends outside of the museum or gallery and into a digital space. If you’ve made it this far, be sure to read my complete interview with Museum Next.
